The South Shore Family Resource Association (SSFRA) provides free programming to families with children prenatal to eighteen + in Lunenburg, Queens, Shelburne and Digby Counties.

Programs vary from site-to-site. Programming is delivered through four Family Resource Centres and numerous outreach sites, which are located throughout the South Shore and Digby County of Nova Scotia.

The South Shore Family Resource Association has developed a comprehensive list of programs and services that take place along the South Shore and Digby counties. Programs vary from site to site. Please refer to each centres Calendar of Events for programs in your area. In addition to these programs each centre also offers faxing, photocopying, access to wi-fi, computer access for participants, access to rebate forms and local resources for families/participants.

The South Shore Family Resource Association offers several training opportunities for the community. Please call the Centre near you to find out more. Click on a topic to learn more about the following:

  • Volunteer Training Volunteers are always welcome at our resource centres. Each new volunteer is provided several sessions of training to assist them in understanding our work and finding the volunteer position that is right for them. Ongoing personal development training is available throughout the year.

  • Emergency Preparedness for Families This workshop is offered for group of parents to assist them in preparing themselves and their families for emergency situations. Participants become familiar with the 72 hour plan and how to prepare emergency backpacks for the entire family. These workshops can be provided in your community.

  • Nobody's Perfect Train the Trainer Nobody's Perfect is a facilitated parenting program for parents of children from birth to age five. The program is designed to meet the needs of parents who are young, single, socially or geographically isolated, or who have low income or limited formal education. It is offered in communities by facilitators to help support parents and young children.

  • Learning Language & Loving It This Hanen training is offered to individuals who work with groups of preschool children. The training enhances skills that promote language development in the early years. Click to learn more about Hanen training

  • Teacher Talk This is a Hanen program which offers 3 one session workshops on early language development. This is offered to those working in early childhood settings. The topics are:
    1. Encouraging Language Development in Early Childhood Settings;
    2. Let Language Lead the Way to Literacy;
    3. Fostering Peer Interaction in Early Childhood Settings
    The first session is a prerequisite to the other two sessions. Click to learn more
